Barney Loehnis,
Asia Pacific Network Director, Isobar

Barney Loehnis is Isobar’s Network Director for the Asia Pacific region, based in Hong Kong since June 2006. He is responsible for driving the global and regional success of Isobar’s digital network - the largest in the region - which is comprised of over 300 digital experts in 14 agencies in APAC.

Barney joined Isobar from Warner Bros. (WB) where he ran the Warner Bros. European Online division from 2001 - 2005. He was responsible for defining the long and short term marketing strategy, production and campaign implementation for WB divisions. Over the course of six years he oversaw the lunch of 1500 film sites and over 4000 promotional campaigns to support the release of films, DVD’s and TV shows across Europe. He was instrumental in the launch of eight WB portals in, as well as some of the largest European entertainment sites such as Harry Potter, Looney Tunes, Scooby Doo and Batman.
Within Warner Bros Barney championed the use of interactive media in marketing campaigns. He worked to evangelise the integration of digital media within offline media and the marketing mix. He developed WB’s CRM strategy and developed the use of online PR, buzz, viral, promotional and media campaigns. In any given year these promotional campaigns – excluding media investment - generated over $100m of media exposure.

Barney started his career at the WHSmith Group, developing management systems at Waterstone’s Booksellers, then within the Strategic Planning & Business Development group at the Wholesale/distribution business. He was a core member of the team that launched WHSmith’s successful eCommerce shops and ISP platform in the late 90’s. In 2000 Barney joined Citikey – a pioneering mobile city guide service - which delivered local restaurant, retail and service information to mobile phones and PDA’s.

On leaving school Barney walked 6,000kms from Istanbul back to London, via the newly liberated Eastern European countries in 1989. He went on to read Philosophy at Bristol University. In 1993
Barney then embarked on a journey walking 9,000kms across China, and was the first person to retrace Mao’s Long March.
